The History of Fishkill, New York: Going Dutch.
|
Nestled in the Hudson River Valley, The White Birch Estates are surrounded by beauty, culture, and history. These estates, located in Fishkill, NY, allow for a peaceful, undisturbed environment with the option of easy access to major routes of transportation. The Town of Fishkill affords strong traditions and community ties which have evolved from the rich history of the area. Initially, Fishkill was a Dutch settlement but at the time of the American Revolution the Dutch settlers were forced aside by the Continental Army, who’s large military encampment and supply storehouses overtook the town. Today, Fishkill is remembered and honored for its vital role in the American Revolution. The town provides tours of significant Revolutionary war sites to history enthusiasts and interested by passers, alike. Two of the many historical locations I recommend visiting are, Modam Brett Homestead, where George Washington once slept, and The Mt. Gulian Historic Site, to which many influential figures in our history had once stayed. These 18th century structures are true relics that embody some of America’s earliest history. |
